🔒 Owl20 Privacy Policy

Last Updated: November 2025

Owl20 is designed with privacy as a core principle. We believe that your D&D gameplay data should remain private and under your control. This privacy policy explains exactly what data Owl20 collects, stores, and transmits - which is minimal by design.

TL;DR: Owl20 does not collect, store, or transmit any personal information. It only passes dice roll data from Beyond20 to Owlbear Rodeo in real-time, with no storage or tracking.

What Data Does Owl20 Collect?

Answer: None.

Owl20 does not collect any personal information, browsing history, character data, or any other information about you or your D&D Beyond account.

  • No account information
  • No character data
  • No browsing history
  • No personal identifiers
  • No analytics or tracking

What Data Does Owl20 Transmit?

Owl20 only transmits dice roll data in real-time from Beyond20 to the Owlbear Rodeo extension. Specifically:

  • Dice roll results: The numbers rolled (e.g., "1d20 + 5 = 18")
  • Roll type: What kind of roll it was (attack, skill check, saving throw, etc.)
  • Character name: The name of the character making the roll (as provided by Beyond20)
  • Character Feats and Abilities: The feats and abilities clicked in the character sheet (as provided by Beyond20)

What is NOT transmitted:

  • D&D Beyond account information
  • Any personal information
  • Browsing history or other website data

This data is transmitted directly from your browser to the Owlbear Rodeo extension running in your browser.

Does Owl20 Store Any Data?

Answer: No.

Owl20 does not store any data locally or on any servers. The extension operates entirely in memory:

  • No roll history is saved
  • No character data is cached
  • No session information is stored
  • No preferences or settings are saved (beyond browser extension defaults)

When you close your browser or refresh the page, all data is cleared. Owl20 is a "pass-through" extension - it receives data from Beyond20 and immediately forwards it to Owlbear Rodeo without storing anything.

Third-Party Services

The Owl20 browser extension and Owlbear Rodeo extension do not use any third-party analytics, tracking, or data collection services. The extensions:

  • Do not use advertising networks
  • Do not share data with any third parties
  • Do not connect to external servers (except for extension updates from browser stores)

Website Analytics: This website (owl20.uberdragon.org) uses Google Analytics for anonymous website analytics to understand how visitors use the site.

Browser Extension Permissions

Owl20 requires minimal permissions to function:

  • Scripting permission: To inject the bridge code into Owlbear Rodeo pages
  • Host access: Only for owlbear.rodeo domains to communicate with the OBR extension

Owl20 does NOT request:

  • Access to browsing history
  • Access to other websites
  • Access to your D&D Beyond account
  • Storage permissions (beyond browser defaults)
  • Any other sensitive permissions

You can review and manage these permissions in your browser's extension settings at any time.

Open Source & Transparency

Owl20 is open source, meaning anyone can review the code to verify our privacy claims:

We believe in transparency - you don't have to trust us, you can verify our code yourself. The source code clearly shows that Owl20 does not collect, store, or transmit any personal data beyond the dice roll information needed for functionality.

Children's Privacy

Owl20 does not knowingly collect any information from anyone, including children. Since Owl20 does not collect any data, there is no risk of collecting information from minors.

However, Owl20 is designed for use with D&D Beyond and Owlbear Rodeo, which may have their own age requirements and privacy policies. Please review those services' privacy policies for information about children's privacy.

Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last Updated" date. We encourage you to review this privacy policy periodically.

If we make significant changes to how we handle data (which is unlikely, since we don't collect data), we will notify users through the extension or this website.
